quarter in plywood,,cut to fit,measuring from AC unit sides,to the inside storm slot,,use a sabre saw,the lil guy made by black & decker, if you have 2 windows,,the inside up & down guy top n bottom,and a storm,all 4 slots can be plugged with the plywood or masonite boards.
coat them with linseed oil & terp,let dry,use duct tape to seal tight,
make sure AC vent holes of unit blow outside before closing the window sash on top of the ac.
mine is mounted like this,I just cut the masonite to seal the storm,then tape,neatly,both sides top & bottom,works nice

CARDBOARD serves the same function as well as the original side panels.
