I have a question for the Jehovah’s Witnesses out there?

Can my husband be baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness, and will he ever be able to be an Elder or anything even though he’s married to someone who doesn’t follow that religion? I attend a non-denominational church. I may not know all there is to know about God, but I know what I believe in and it’s not in line with what the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe. My husband is working harder than ever to get himself together so he can become an actual Jehovah’s Witnesses (as his parents are). I think the religion is a cult for a number of reasons. God loves everybody and never forsakes anybody, so why do they disfellowship people?

If he desires to be “high-up” in the religion (which seems to be the case), how can he do that when his wife doesn’t follow? Will they (meaning the Elders or the Jehovah’s Witnesses themselves) allow that? Also, are their guidelines are things he must do in order to become a Jehovah’s Witness?

Update:

That seems wrong to me. Religion and christianity is not a membership. It’s open to everybody, so I thought. Maybe I am missing something. Can you enlighten me, please?
