Qualifying is a complex process, yes it takes into account your physical reasons but they want to evaluate your emotional readiness also. Usually ask you to lose a certain amount of weight prior to surgery. Just because you have the surgery and drop the weight fast doesn't mean you won't eventually put that weight back on, so you should receive counselling prior to being approved. I know a few who have had it done and it's not an easy way to lose weight - there is no easy way - you lose weight quick as your new small stomach can't deal with much both quantity and type. You may find a piece of cheese sits ok but a piece of apple makes you vomit. There is a lot of vomit. I'd say see a doctor, check out the process, but end of the day it comes down to eating less, eating smart, and getting moving. If bariatric surgery helps you get there then go for it, but it is extreme and should be a last resort.
