I found this sequence of numbers in the top corner of an article: 39(4) 579–600 What does it mean?
I've seen similar number sequences in the top corners of other articles but have never known what they've meant/stood for. I'm assuming it has to do with the journal volume and issue.
This is how you reference a journal article, it is found in: volume 39, 4th part (39 is the whole year, it is issued probably quarterly or can be every 2 months etc), pages 579 to 600. Every article references that way; usually with the year as well.
