is it (x-1)² or (x+1)² ?

first of start to calculate (x+1)^2 by using the binomial forumla, which says (a+b)^2= a^2 +2ab+b^2 after u have done that ull have -4(x^2+2x+1)-4 and now u just multiply all whats in the parentheses with '-4' so ull get -4x^2 + 8x -4 -4 in the end u just subtract '-4' from '-4' which is '-8' !!! in the end ull get -4x^2 + 8x -8

Y = -4 (X² + 2x + 1) - 4...............Read below how I squared the binomial

Y = -4X² - 8X - 4 - 4

Y = - 4X² - 8X - 8............ANSWER

SQUARING A BINOMIAL (in one step)

A quick way to square a binomial............answers are called PERFECT SQUARE TRINOMIALS

(X+Y)^2............5 Rules

1....Square first term...X^2

2...Bring down the same sign as the problem....+

3...Twice the product of the two terms....2*X*Y......2XY

4...ALWAYS a positive....+

5...Square the last term....Y^2

ANSWER.......................X^2+2XY+Y^2

EXAMPLES

(3X-5Y)^2=9X^2-30XY+Y^2

(5X+8Y)^2=25X^2+80XY+64Y^2

Use FOIL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FOIL_method

(x+1)^2 = x*x+x*1+x*1+1*1 = x^2+2x+1

Then -4*(x^2+2x+1) -4 = -4x^2 -8x - 4 -4 = -4x^2 -8x - 8

The final answer is: -4x^2 -8x - 8
