I am a freshman college student. I'm not into the party scene and I'm not used to being social. I would like to meet a woman, though, hopefully to date--if I find someone whom I find interesting, and finds me interesting, it becomes easy to talk to someone and be social.

The problem is, though, I don't know how to just meet women. THere is a woman in one of my lecture classes, and since finals are coming up, I want to approach her after class and say, Are you ready for the final? What have you thought of the class (astronomy, which is interesting to me so I'd be able to talk about it), Maybe we can study for the final together sometime soon? etc. Is this normal? Would a girl feel creeped out if I just came up to her and asked her things like this? To me, who has never really approached a woman like this, it seems weird, but I don't know how girls think. How would I get her phone number in the end?

If this isn't a good way to meet her (I have no idea who she is other than she is pretty), what would you suggest?

I'd like to emphasize, is it all right to ask her, upon just meeting her (considering finals are in less than 2 weeks) if she'd like to get together and study for it sometime? I figure I'll tell her (which isn't a lie, because I think lying is lame) that I studied for the last 2 exams but was disappointed in my grade, and that maybe studying with someone else would make it better.
