For instance, if I want to buy a new bike, and type in "buy a new bike" I get not only useful info, but I get countless blogs about what someone was doing when they bought a new bike, yada yada yada.
I guess it is just because some people are in such a rush they have absolutely no time to search up anything on the internet so they post their question on Yahoo!Answers hoping someone out there could give them a hand. I think this is why Yahoo created Yahoo!Answers.
For the same reason you wrote your "question" people want to know someone is out there and paying attention to them. Some people need to respond and want the feedback with another living, breathing human...and sometimes, we are just bored.
