What I love is how some compare this to Congress where they always have low numbers. These people forget that the more that Congress compromises the more people are mad since they didn't get what they want.
As for Obama, he is slowly losing the support of the main stream media. I know that DemocracyNOW has left supporting him exclusively over a year ago.
As others have said, I would what Obama's approval would be if the media would stop covering for him?
Congress is at single digit approval rating. Obama's is a respectable 41% in a second term. GW was in the low 30's at this time in his term. Not to worry. If I were on the right, I'd worry who might be a good challenger to Hillary Clinton in 2016. None. So, what are Republicans going to do? Bash Obama in hopes it would have any effect on Hillary on Nov. 2016. Grasping at straws?
Yes and despite the media's best effort to protect him~!
It took almost 8 years of hounding G. Bush when all it took was 5 years of the media praising 0bama to bring the two popular ratings together. Makes you wonder if G. Bush had the media on his side like Clinton did, Bush would have left office with one of the highest ratings a president ever had.
Remember Nixon was in the 60's percent range when he left office.

41% not bad of for second term.
I would hate to be congress though, they have 7%. People said they like cockroaches better than congress.
Only if you completely ignore previous presidents and their much lower approval ratings. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bushs-final-approval-r...

Apparently not as well as they figured out George Bush.
