and therefore deserves recognition as a “Hip Hop Region?”
I say NO (not yet). The Midwest is trying to come up, but I feel they are still in the early stages and I don’t feel they’ve done anything real significant which would place them on the map YET. If you think about how strongly the West came through with NWA, Ice-T, The Chronic etc.. They created a style of rap that’s all their own “Gangsta Rap.”
Even the South, as much as I hate to admit it, has made themselves somewhat of an icon with their dumb-downed crap. But the Midwest has not made any real breakthroughs yet. Do you agree?
Update:I disagree. I don't thin the MW has made a "STRONG" impact.

WOW......
the Midwest was a region since Resurrection dropped....what about all the dudes that try to sound like Dilla. like Common. Like Kanye. Dilla being the most important one.
I wonder how absurd it would be if someone was like "Do you think the west coast has paid it's dues to be a rock region?" Oh.... that doesn't happen because rock music doesn't have the occasional fan that thinks identity, location, and this other superfluous stuff has anything to do with music.
And how does a presidential hopeful in someone's avatar ruin the hip hop forum here? Especially when it's a guy who is for retreating out of Iraq and bringing back freedom to the country.
I hate to bring them up but don't forget guys like Nelly, Chingy, J-Kwon, and Murphy Lee. I hate'em too but they demanded a lot of mainstream attention all coming out of St. Louis. You could argue that the two biggest mainstream artists (Kanye and 50) just went head to head with Kanye coming out on top. Royce da 5'9" is another guy from Detroit City and like everyone else said how could you forget Bone Thugs-N-Harmony?
letz not forget Twista and Bone Thugs N Harmony and Tech N9ne Brang Da Midwest Up and created da fast rap technique .
They haven't had a strong impact. NOt as big of an impact as South, West, or East, but Eminem had rap from '99 to '02.
midwest not a region? either you claim to be a head and yet not know that chicago has one of the best underground scenes yet, or youre a mainstream listener who only knows common kanye and lupe. dilla, arguably the best producer EVER, came out of the midwest (detroit), eminem, the most successful white rapper ever is from detroit, atmosphere is from minneapolis, common hails from chicago, and one of my personal favorite rappers, one be lo, is from detroit.
so yeah, you should do a little research before you say something like that.
Do or Die, Bone Thugs N Harmony...c'mon dude. even atmosphere's from minnesota. Figure it out.
i have to say yes underground is hot inchicago but i mean as far as mainstreeam no but tehy do have eminem lupe and kanye and they are holding it down so i have to sa yes
