Sky high taxes came from another past administration. Inflation came from stock and real estate speculation. Earthquakes, fires and floods are out of any governor's purview to control.
I left California back in '73 when gas went up to 50 cents, but it was still 30 cents in Texas. Two days of hot Texas summer was more than I could take and I came back to California.
Newsom is doing pretty good for California. The ones who can't stand him are the people in Jefferson County who want to split off into their own state and be racially segregated.
I think businesses are corrupt here and the government can't rein them in. I used to be able to spit and have it hit a good business everywhere in California. Most of them have moved South where they can hire wage slaves without unions, or go overseas and have real slaves. Covid didn't start this. It gradually grew like untreated cancer. Too many people flipped their houses only to find other homes too expensive unless they left the state.
You smug bastards can wag your tongues and talk smack on California, but Californians coming to your state will spend their retirement gentrifying and pricing you out of your ancestral homes.
People were moving out of California in the 1980s when I lived there. The government and media made much of it and always have, because It's been going on for decades. That is no measure of Newsom's effectiveness, as anyone with a brain slightly more evolved than that of a fruit fly would know.
For all the people moving out, many keep moving in, That has also been going on for decades. In 1981, the California population was about 24,000,000. A few years ago, it was about 40,000,000.
I am signing the recall the instant I can. Despite the passing of propositions 62 and 66, he suspended the death penalty against the will of voters.
Then the voters rejected Prop 21, preventing rent control in California by a wide margin. Newsom and the California legislature went ahead and imposed rent control through AB 1482.
Then he destroyed the economy by shutting down businesses under the guise of Covid even as study after study shows that things like outdoor dining and plexiglass partitioning is effective at preventing the spread of the disease.
Don’t jump to conclusions with out considering all the facts. Many California’s residents were displaced by wild fires and have decided to live elsewhere. Trump criticized Newsom for the fires, but truth is 58% of the land is under federal control, 39% is privately owned and only 3% are state controlled. The high cost of living is another factor which again is not under Newsom’s control. Consider all factors when you hear someone make an assumption.

It is possible to be neither. If I had to chose, I wouldn't say he is a good governor.

Gray Davis was removed from office for less.
