I think you're onto something here. Compulsively trying to fill an emotional void by purchasing non-essential items... People going shopping for "therapy"... I've never thought of it that way, but I would agree that it probably is.
It seems to be an outlet for other underlying mental disorders, such as anxiety, depressions, bipolar disorder, control issues, thrill seeking disorders, etc...etc..
Although I'm sure there are some people who just crazy like to shop.

I am a guy who barely has enough clothes and shoes and she collects everything under the sun.
