Basically I have been wanting to go to Australia on a working holiday visa for years and years but the only thing stopping me is that I have been informed I would have to have at least £3000 in my bank account when I go over - then flights on top of that...
However this is the thing: I have family in Perth, not immediate family but I am in touch with them and could easily live with them rent free for a month or two while I search for a flat. I also have friends over there and could probably arrange a job before I went over. So although I would still need to take some money over - I reckon I could get by with about a grand which would do me as I will be getting free accommodation and then a job...
Do you reckon I would be allowed into the country without £3000 in my bank account under these circumstances?
Any help would be massively appreciated as the sooner I can go the better =)
Thank you

The general requirements are:
Financial requirements
You must have access to sufficient funds to support yourself for the initial stage of your holiday. Generally, AUD5000 [~£3400] may be regarded as sufficient, but the amount may vary depending on your length of stay and the extent of your travel. You should also have a return or onward ticket or the funds for a fare to depart Australia.
You may be asked to provide evidence. Evidence may include a certified copy of a bank statement and an air ticket out of Australia.

This amount applies to a person who is arriving in Australia without any previous accommodation or job arrangements. You could get by with a lesser amount if you can show a statement of your family that they provide board and lodging and a working contract arranged by your friends. However you will still need to hold a return flight ticket or the funds to get one [~£700 or AU$1100].
don't ask us - ask the Australian embassy or consulate. You'll feel pretty silly when you get off the airplane and tell the Aussie immigration people that RooDuud92 told you that you could waltz into the country with 15 euros and a Foster's in your pocket.
When the information HAS to be right, go to the authority that can give you the straight dope, not a mob of people with a few minutes spare time.
There are lots of web sites to go to get all the details. I think I would like to have a bit of a bank account. You never know if your relatives are telling you they would put you up because they really don't expect you to come. Even if they did you really should give them something monetarily I still say try to get as close to the amount you have been told
