I never lied to them about everlasting life. I just told them the truth about it!:)
Think about this. Isn't it better to believe in God and redemption and die and be wrong than to refuse to believe in God and redemption die and be wrong? Be practical. What works better?
I choose to believe in everlasting life because holding that belief helps me live my life better and happier. If I happen to be wrong, I have lost nothing.
I challenge you to read "Heaven is for Real."
I also wonder why you choose not to believe. We are humans. Not likely that any of us know the whole truth about anything. Probably we are better off not knowing all. How is your refusal to believe helping you?
When I was very young, I believed that I could know everything and that I had to know everything. I now smile indulgently when I look back at that person I was then.
I think I hear pain behind your question. I am sorry you have been hurt. Don't hurt yourself more by refusing to take comfort in what you can. This life is short. Choose to be as happy as you can while you have it.
I was probably around 4 or 5 when my parents told me about this. . .
I was about 9 or 10 when I forgot about it, and stopped believing.
It was about my senior year in college when I started tearing through the work of various historians with regards to Christianity and discovered that the evidence for what my parents told me when I was 4 or 5 was actually quite compelling.
It's been about 2 mins now, since I've been aware that you can't produce a single lick of evidence for the claim that "everlasting lie" is a lie, and that you simply believe it on blind faith.
What is an idea? Where do ideas come from? We only know of one source is that is from the mind of man. Ideas are non physical entities that a man turns over in his mind. A teacher or mom can pass on knowledge to the children or pupils so that what was once not in their minds now is.
But what do ideas cover? Everything the mind of man can uncover in the universe or a universe of his own making or of one that might exist if he puts effort and hard work into it to make it into our world. Yes the mind of man gives birth to ideas. Or do they really? Is it possible that ideas can exist outside of man long before the mind of man can discover them?
Do ideas die? No. So a dead man can still speak to us from a book or some object or person who is a pupil of theirs. The idea lives. Ah but it is also true that an idea exists even if a person accepts it or not.
So what exactly is the mind of man that can work with these ideas? For you and i acknowledge that man has a mind.
I choose to see it as a part of the soul of man that is eternal and will like an idea never die.
You see the mind of man is a new invention of ungodly man to deny the spiritual part of man.
It is the soul. It is who you and I are.
We will not die.
So what is everlasting life that I pass on to my children? LIfe is God. And to have everlasting life is to be with God not just in this world with faith but in the world to come. This is what is taught to our children that we can have an everlasting life relationship with God starting now. Today.
Does this help? Your question got under my skin and I just think you fully understand what really makes a human being. It is more than the physical. It is more than mental. It is who we are and it is spiritual. It is our soul.
Later.
Edit. To me is not a lie. They probably told me ever since I was with them as a baby boy. I didn't understand it or see its truth until I was 11 years old.
Edit: Actually I know my answer was short. But it has more than one level. Do you have children? If so, it would be helpful to know your approach, if you condemn parents passing on their faith to their children. If you don't have children, it may be too soon for you to ask this question...or perhaps it would be best phrased in another way. We communicate our values to our children every day, and when they are young, usually until about 12 or 13, they usually value the same things. However, as they age, they make their own choices, and the parents' voice is just one of many and at times, not the most valued. I think it's good if children know what their parents believe and why, and also come to understand that their parents may be wrong...even if they are sincerely wrong. Do you communicate with those you love, that you might be wrong about "neverlasting life"?

Happiness is a choice.

They start teaching them this from the age of 4. You gotta get em while they are young.
I don't remember.
Why don't you launch your froggy self into the next spirogyra pool?
how do you know its a lie? truth is a concept that only has context within this universe, there is no truth or lie when we talk about the beyond
It only works if you get 'em young.
What did you tell your children?
