Do you think it’s really a tongue in cheek attempt to point out how hypocritical it is for the Catholic Church to be forever using poignant images of starving children in Africa in the hope of getting people to give the Catholics money, when the Catholic leadership is rich enough to own an entire freakin city? They could sell just a portion of it and with the money, feed every starving kid in Africa for a year!
Update:That David is such a douche bag with his copy and paste walls of nonsense.

I'm not a Catholic, but I do find most of Sarah Silverman's "verbal diarrhea" offensive. And, it's not even offensive to shock someone into thought or even for the sake of humor; it's shock for shocks sake. Just because some people think she's sort of attractive, she thinks she can get away with anything and the more offensive the better. She's wrong on so many different things, but especially this one. I mean, even if the Pope sells the Vatican (btw, who would buy it?), at best, it would be a stall and wouldn't fix the real problem of all the corrupt governments in Africa. The point I'm trying to make is that it would be foolish to even consider it.
My dad told me about it, he was watching Bill Maher and thought he just had to tell me. I think Sarah has some really good talent as a comedienne, although she gets way too crude for me sometimes.
I've thought about the vatican thing before, honestly, but I don't think the pope.. at least the current pope would go for it. Still, I've written the vatican and asked about what might be done.. you know, maybe not sell the entire city but *something* Well anyway, this is something that is very close to my heart, which is why I advocate child sponsorship and such. I can personally only support one sponsored child (who is in India) besides care for my own, but at least it helps one and I am very grateful for that. If more people sponsored, there would be way less suffering children.
Why not talk about the GOOD the Catholic church does? I dont know about where you live but here the churches give clothes to the needy day in and day out. They welcome the homeless *and not just durring the daytime*. They have soup kitchens and offer job placement programs, rehab programs. I guess you forgot to mention those things. Plus it sounds like you went into this video with your mind made up about a denomination you obviously know nothing about.
Let me ask you, What have you done for a homeless person lately?
Or someone suffering addiction?
There will always be someone who is against something, no matter what that something is. Jesus does love you, I hope you see that.
It made me like Sarah Silverman a lot more. I thought it was awesome. Yes it was a shot at the Catholic church but i believe there was some truth to it as well. I wonder what actually COULD be accomplished if the vast amount of wealth in the Vatican were to be sold to charities.
The video was very funny also
The Great Spirit I've met from time to time, should he/she/it ride into town on the afternoon bus would surely say: "There are a couple of really cool people who "get it" that I would like to meet--Sarah Silverman and Bono.
let the united nations start the ball rolling by telling every country in the world to sell part of their assets.
also you know the vatican already have 25% of charities in africa.
you knew that didn;t you
I haven't seen Ms. Silverman's Youtube video.
But, I do have to say that I agree with the statement mentioned in your question.
A whole city can buy quite a few meals for an entire village and then some.
Be Blessed:-)
Really now I just want to argue with Mopar Mike.... how can you say Catholics are just as bad as non-believers? Excuse me but I consider myself a lot better than any Christian I have ever met, and I take great offense to being compared with selfish popes and ignorant people of any religion.
I haven't seen the vid in question yet. But I love Sarah Silverman and the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church disgusts me. I'll check it out.
Please don't overlook the good they've done. For humans it's so easy to focus on the negative aspects of things, but we need to also consider the positive aspect.
