Three years ago this month I a bought a used car from a dealership that mostly sells new cars. Tonight they called tonight looking to buy my car. My car is nothing special, a 2002 Vitara. Why would they do this?

I have been in the car business now for over 12-yeas and all they are doing is trying to get you to come in so they can sell you another car.
Good luck.
They're trying to get customers onto the lot to make sales.
It has nothing to do with your particular car - you're on their mailing list. I get these kind of things in the mail all the time. They make good bedding for a rabbit.
Are you sure it was actually them and not some sort of bizarre attempt at a scam?
Best bet is to ask them yourself for at least a starting hint as to what's going on.
They want to sell you a new one. They don't mean to just buy your car but they will take it as a trade-in.
My dealer did the same to me. They think that you may be tired of your car and may be ready for another.
To get you to come into the showroom and buy a new car.
Just a sales ploy. They have no interest in your car whatsoever.
