my husband is claiming working tax credits we have 1 son at the min, he gets 12000 after tax i think each year. have you had maternity grant and you claim working tax credits please this will help me very much i live in the uk

Okay. Firstly, do you claim child tax credit along with your working tax credits? If not, why not? You should be entitled. Go to www.entitledto.co.uk and see for yourself what you should be getting.
In order to be entitled to the surestart maternity grant you need to be recieving "Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element" which basically means, over £545 or so a year in child tax credit (not working tax credit)
If you find that you are not entitled to a rate higher than the family element, then wait until your next child is born and re-apply within three months. You may be entitled then by having two children.
Either way, download and print out the forms from the jobcentre website, fill them in and give it a try. They can only say no and this will not be held against you.
