BY DEFINITION, a Christian believes and confesses Jesus Christ to be GOD INCARNATE IN HUMAN FLESH, and the second Person of the Holy Trinity. The other two are of course God, the Father and God, the Holy Spirit.
If you don't believe that, it doesn't matter how many good deeds you do, how often you go to church or who your friends are. You're not a Christian, period.
Latter-day Saint Christians are Christians. If we're not, then nobody is, for there is no church closer to the New Testament church, whether we speak of structure, doctrines, authority, or saving ordinances.
Islam: No, Muslims are not Christians. They deny that Jesus Christ is the son of God. For that matter, so do most Christians.
The Jehovah's Witnesses: They're close enough that I don't feel the need to correct them -- usually.
Jesus presciently warned us about those who would exploit His Name and power to create 'false' versions of Him that would be nearly convincing enough to deceive even His elect, (Matthew 24:24).
Mormons, JW's and Islam each 'honor' a version of Christ that is less than the One proclaimed and worshiped in Holy Scripture as GOD Incarnate. They each reject the existing scriptures and replace them with 'better versions' supposedly arriving by revelation taking place AFTER the Bible itself declared scriptural revelation to be closed and promised punishments against anyone adding to or taking away from its holy words, (Revelation 22:18-19).
This is how we can always tell truth from falsehood.
However, 'false' messages of prophecy are not 'fake' messages. If they were, they would inspire no one and die out quickly. Being able to attract millions of followers demonstrates that the inspiration is real, only that the source of the inspiration is evil. It is called the 'spirit of antichrist,' (1 John 2:18-23, 4:3).
The one commonality between all 'antichrist' movements is their ultimate goal. At some point they will attempt to demonstrate in some way that Jesus was never a 'real' flesh and blood person at all, (2 John 1:7).
Jehovah's Witnesses, Isaiah 43:10, are true Christians, living their lives according to God's inspired word and following in Jesus Christ's footsteps while exercising faith in him as their Lord and Savior, the Son of the living God, Jehovah.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (nick named Mormons) consider themselves Christians. The church claims to be the restored church of Jesus Christ to the gentiles preparatory to the return of Christ. It is led by revelation from Christ to living apostles.
