Could someone please tell me what I'm going wrong? I keep getting the wrong answer.
This is how I've been working it:
³ = a 3 (I know its tiny)
100 - 3 (6-5+1)³
=100 - 3 (2)³
=100 - 3 (6)
=100- 18
= 82
BUT the answer is supposed to be 76...Where am i messing up? please help!
Update:Thank you everyone! Wow I feel really silly now...Thanks for all of your help, I understand now :-)

2^3=8 not 6
Heather: pretty simple. You have 2^3 = 6, but actually. . .2^3 = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8.
So. . . 100 - 3 x (2 x 2 x 2) = 100 - 3 x 8 = 100 - 24 = 76
2³ is (2)(2)(2) = 8, not 6
So then, 100 - 3(8) = 100 - 24 = 76
You did a great mistake.
Note: (2)^3=8
Now
100 - 3 (6-5+1)^3
=100 - 3 (2)^3
=100 - 3 (8)
=100- 24
= 76
I think you almost understand your mistake.
Thanks
You are are multiplying 2x3 instead of cubing it. Little 3 means you multiply 2 x 2 x 2. Not 2 x 3.
100-3(2)^3
100-3(8)
100-24=76
