I can understand why the Unions donate to Labour, the two are historically linked. But why would hedge funds donate that type of money to the Tories? What do they hope to gain from it?!
Update:I am educated, and I am both aware of and proud of Labours links with the Unions, it proves the Labour Party was established to look after the needs of the workers. I am old enough (just) to remember Thatcher's criminal destruction of the unions which has led over the years to greater inequality of wealth. The global recession was caused by the bankers. Labour should have regulated them more but while they were in opposition the Tories pushed for LESS bank regulation not more! This question is not about Labour, it is about the Tories and why the bankers are supporting them. What influence do they expect to gain from it and is this good for our democracy?

Simple. the hedge funds are operated by the same crooks who launder the drug dealers and other criminal gangs money. Organized crime operates at the highest apex of the economic pyramid and it's almost impossible to separate criminal activities with finance these days as they law (so-called) and politics are simply on the next rung down! It's one great family and the people (us) are at the bottom of the trust level! Isn't that ironic! Oh, well, you gotta have a sense of humour!
The second irony is that the west now feels 'compelled' to save these middle east countries from their own sovereignty by forcefully imposing our own brand of pseudo-democracy and crony capitalism on them against the very International Laws designed to protect such sovereignty that these selfsame countries applaud when it suits them!
Of course, another reason behind the mass 'donations' to the three-party monster (I mean system) is because of the rise of Ukip! Again, it all comes back to a predetermined plan and the people are slowly waking up! (which is bad for the 1%).

Labour are as close if not closer to the banks and hedge funds, the reason its so bad is the historical problems with the unions. LIEBOUR still receive money from banks,,,,, BLAIR IS EVEN A BANKER!

1. they start taxing at £6,500........ compared to the coalition's £9.,500..
2. they didnt regulate the banks in 13 years.
3. more tax has been paid by top earners EVERY year under the coalition than ANY under labour.

5. spend 11% more than they take in tax.
6. they destroyed our economy.
7. they want to continue to send 57million a day to the EU

I am in the union Unite and we have given over a 11 million pounds to Labour in the last few years, for what? to ethnic cleanse our streets and pay out handouts to those who are work shy etc, I have Thatcher to thank for allowing me to opt out of the 'political fund' (good old Maggie).
The Torrie'sget such big handouts because they always help their friends as paul says in his answer, simple as that.

Hedge funds live by the Tory party allowing them to 'hedge their funds' against British business, buying it, breaking it up, and shipping the work to Asia, where the pay is cheap, and there's no real health, and safety.
Basically the Tories are selling out the economy, in the name of 'economy'.
Well if you look at what labour have done and are threatening to do to our economy and financial sector i think the answer is obvious.And don't act like labour don't have any millionaire donors and not just union barons
