Update:May Day is a Communist holiday celebrating International Workers’ Day, which commemorates the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago. It is also a pagan holiday and a Russian holiday. I am quite sure Obama in his festering mind was dictating loyalty to the Marxist State and not to the Constitution. Frankly, this holiday should not be celebrated at all here in the U.S.

Sounds like a typical tyrrant to me...demanding our patriotism. A true American leader does not have to command people to be loyal to this nation...A true American leader invokes loyalty from Americans by showing his/her own patriotism AT ALL TIMES. Most of us remember obama's reluctance to wear the flag lapel pin and when he did not place his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance. We also remember his bowing to those who hate America and encourage their countrymen to do the same.
The Fourth of July would have been more appropriate to celebrate loyalty to the United States. He never acknowledges that to my knowledge.
The 8 hour workday began as a white man's movement before the Civil War and was not possible to realize as long as slavery still existed. As jobs required fewer skills and more people needed jobs, the 8 hour work day would have happened anyway. With the advent of assembly lines and technology along with more competition, it was a natural progression. People began to have a bit more money and wanted more time to spend it. This was good for the economy. An even shorter work day is likely on the horizon just because its the natural progression due to our economic circumstances due to O'Care and lack of jobs and increased technology.

The 8hr work day in America was brought about by SOCIALIST UNIONS working off of Robert Owen's Socialist movement's ideas who started riots and strikes!
There wasnt any legislation regarding it until The United States Adamson Act in 1916, for railroad workers and was taken as a precedent in 1937, when what became the Fair Labor Standards Act (29 U.S. Code Chapter 8 under the New Deal by that terrible Socialist FDR came about
