It is pretty silly. It's the same with people complaining about how Walmart puts smaller local competitors out of business. People want to act like they care but nobody cares enough to pay a dollar or two more for our goods and services.
We don't. We complain that all those glorious MBAs can't think of any other way to bring afford products than by sending all manufacturing jobs to a country that feels itself too good for freedom and capitalism.
I try to buy as little from China as possible. It isn't always possible, of course, but I always look at labels when I buy stuff. I look for products made in Canada, US, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, India, other parts of the world, China, in that order. Sometimes I can't, sometimes I can. I do what I can.
Funny you should say that I work in a discount shop and everythng is made in China.
Every day someone complains about the goods coming from there and everyday I think to myself if you don't like it don't buy them.
Well I could try to boycott Chinese products, but wouldn't that make the people in China worse off?
Cost of living is lower in China, along with a lower standard of living & work environment, hence the lower wages.
They aren't working for lower wages so Americans can pay less.
Chinese products are purchased because of the price. The price is so low because of the immorally low wages paid. The problem with pacts like NAFTA is that we were told that it was supposed to raise standards for everyone. Instead, it has lowered our standards.
