Many people think of a dog as a living breathing but stupid dumb animal incapable of feelings like loss, attachment, jealousy etc and they are either a status thing or a pet with no higher value than say a fish, mouse or turtle. Know of many people that share their bed with horses, goats, sheep? So what’s the diggersnce except dogs are smaller than standard livestock, or. So many people think. Keep in mind that concepts like proper toilet training, obedience, putting boundaries and treating their dogs like they had the intelligence somewhere between a 3 to 5 year old and some people never ever bond with or work with their dogs to try and push their skills.
Dogs are known to have works, parasites etc that can be spread to humans, they Roll in disgusting smelly things, they lick themselves all over, eat gross things including poop and then they want to sleep next to someone which many people are either germaphobe, or simply don’t like the hair in heavy shedders.
My guys have run of the house, they have their own couch onto slobber on, have their own crates with blankets for their personal beds and the majority of them hate sleeping with me because I have wrestles leg syndrome and kids them all night long while I sleep. My service dog does sleep with me, during especially bad bouts he has been trained to lay across my legs to help keep them warm. And still and to keep me from literally running off my bed. He usually starts on the floor but watches me for those bad nights. I don’t have a problem with him, he is low shedding, brushed and vacuumed out daily and doesn’t have doggie breath.
My biggest dog a Newfie mix chooses to sleep out in the barn especially when we have babies or young stock, he has his own stall with a bed and pleanty of blankets if he chooses but he can let himself in the house if he gets too cold.
I’m one of those people that believe if you want a dog you need to do more than provide food, water and some type of shelter, they are instinctively a pack animal and do the best when living indoors with their humans. The. Excuse about dogs smell bad, they are full of parasites and are filthy just shows you a truly lazy owner that doesn’t make sure the dog is groomed properly, has seen the vet in a regular basis and feeds it whatever is on sale or tons of table scraps etc keeping them on a poor diet giving them mouth rot basically.
I can understand the bed thing, especially for people that are light sleepers, if your dog patrols and goes up and down every 45 minuted or so you wouldn’t ever get a good nights sleep. Nothing wrong however to teach the dog to stay off the furniture and of the people beds especially if they have their own bed.
The bed is understandable because of hygene. Dogs shed hair. DOgs dont wash every day like humans do. Probably not the healthiest thing lying in that all night. Personally I allow my dog on the bed, but I get why people would be grossed out by that.
Could be a generation thing. Older people typically see dogs as disgusting, **** covered animals. As for leaving them outside 24-7 I have no idea, maybe they just view dogs as a means of security (they should get a weapon instead). Dogs are animals that are extremely social and need to be with their families, if people don't want a dog in the house they should get a cat,or a rodent.
I think that is so stupid. I love dogs and would love if one slept in my bed with me cause they make me feel protected and loved, besides I don't want them to be lonely and make them sleep on the floor or not with me, that is just mean
Its a matter of personal preference. For some, its how they are raised.
Some cultures are taught that animals are unclean and do not belong in the house.
When I had a dog, he slept in my bed. My bearded dragon sleeps in my bed.
IMO the only dogs that belong outside are certain working dogs..
Such as livestock guardians.. But they live with the herd in the barn.. Not chained to a dog house..
Or sled dogs, who need to stay acclimated to the weather, but they have the companionship of their teammates.. And their handlers are also constantly working and training.. They arent tied to a doghouse to be bored and alone.

It’s mostly people who aren’t dog owners that think that
Some people, like me, treat their dogs like their kids. That way you have a wonderful connection with them. Everyone’s views are different.

I guess they have their own reasons to think that. My dog sleeps in the bed every night.
