Did it have anything to due with issues of identity and status? Or even economics? Why did they feel the need to go there, even if they could barely afford to stay there? What do you think?
Update:And I’m not questioning why they would...I mean, it’s a beautiful place and I can understand wanting to spend time within such beauty and grandeur. But realistically, if one could not afford it, why go? Was it a deeper reason? Did they want to portray status and that they were close to Louis XIV? What do you think?
