A special type of boureki is found in the local cuisine of Crete and especially in the area of Chania. It is a pie filled with sliced zucchini, sliced potatoes, mizithra or feta cheese and spearmint...
The mixture can be covered by a thick layer of traditional phyllo (pastry crust), but it is quite common to be left plain as well. It is a common meal in Chania to buy or visit the 'Stephanos Heaven' patisserie place.

If you don't want the meat and potatoes, try the Armenian boeregs:
It's folded into triangles and stuffed with cheese, spinach and the filling is typically spiced. A popular combination is spinach, feta, cottage cheese (or pot cheese) and a splash of anise-flavoured liquor (such as raki or ouzo).
Or the Albanian version: this dish is called byrek, burek, or lakror; and it contains mainly spinach but sometimes also meat or cheese, or a sweet filling of pumpkin.
Of course you will not find them. Places that sell Borek are small shops or bakeries. You will find them everywhere, Just walk around a bit, and you'll spot one. They usually place them where they can be seen from the street.
Just be prepared that they will have a bit different shape from the Turkish ones.
