i love any mexican style dish. my favorite meal is the traditonal "Chicken taco" its stuffed with
Hard taco shell
steamy mexican flavored (spicy) ground beef
american cheese pieces
lettuce
grilled chicken bits
(mild) taco sauce
and milk ( to drink)
Chicken Tikka Wonton
I found I didn't have much taste for pork or sea food so I decided to tamper with the classic wonton recipe and came up with this.
It's a a type of dumpling in a vegetable broth.
It's quite filling, I would personally eat it as a main meal (dinner) but it could be eaten at lunch as well.
You can eat it with a spoon or you can go fishing with chopsticks xD
Edit: You generally eat it on it's own but you can also have it with a condiment dish. Wonton traditionally uses, pickles, ginger and seasame oil.
Because I changed the filling to chicken tikka I will often opt for a sweet condiment and use a mango chutney or if I've chosen a very spicy marinade a yogurt mint dressing to "dip" the wonton and cool the flavor a little. If you wanted cool/spicy and sweet all in one you could use both, they do work well.

^^^ That's a good recipe to follow if you want to make your own mint dressing.
Part 1, Chicken Tikka:
First you need to make up the chicken tikka. If you want to buy it ready made then ignore this part and skip ahead to the actual dumplings/wrappers.
You'll need:
- 1/2 pint of live natural yogurt
- 1/2 Tablespoon Cumin powder
- 1/2 Tablespoon Garam masala (if you can't find this use a liberal helping of black pepper)
- 1/2 Teaspoon Coriander powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon chilli powder
- Juice 1/2 lemon
- 4 cloves garlic - crushed
- 1 inch grated ginger
- Red food colouring (optional but does tend to look better)
- 2 Chicken Breasts Cubed
Mix the spices, colouring (if used) lemon juice, ginger and garlic up into a paste with a little water and stir in well with the yogurt to make a tandoori marinade. Marinate the chicken in the marinade for 2-3 hours depending on how strong you like it.
Part 2, Wonton Wrappers:
Again, you can sometimes buy these pre-made. In this case please skip ahead again. If not, bare with me, this is the last fiddly bit.
- 1 egg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup water, as needed
This should make you about 24 wrappers, if you have too many they can be frozen for later use.
Gently beat the egg and add 1/4 cup water.
Sift the flour into a large bowl. Make a well in the middle and add the egg and water mixture. Mix in with the flour. Slowly add in extra water until you have a firm but moist dough.
When you have this, roll the dough into a ball and knead it for around 5 mins. Leave it to settle for 30 mins then turn it out onto a floured work surface and roll it out thinnly. Cut it into about 3 1/2-inch squares.
Take your chicken tikka and allow the excess marinade to drain away, place the chicken cubes in the center of your square, add veg if you like, I advise onion + carrot. Take the dough and wrap it around the filling like a little package, pinch the edges tightly together and fold them down.
Part 3: Bring it all together
Take some gravy (either chicken or veg) and make a watery broth, add some sage & onion if you like. Add your wonton (dumplings) to the broth, add some noodles (chinese egg noodles or rice noodles) let the whole thing simmer on a low heat for about 25 mins.
Steam some spinach (keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't wilt too much, this should take about 8 mins)
Add everything together and garnish with some finely chopped spring onion or celery.
When you're done you should have something like this

Really fiddly to make, surprisingly not too difficult though, looks more intimidating than it is. Tastes amazing <333
I like a seasoned rare steak with some bitter greens like arugula or watercress with a citrus based dressing. I like it because on one hand it is a bit gourmet, but on the other hand there is a primal vibe to the meal, like a caveman eating some meat and some plant matter.
I would eat this meal for dinner, it would be the main course of a 3-4 course meal. You eat this dish with a fork and a knife.
