A condo - condominium is the building that contains all the apartments. The apartment is where people live, but the condominium (i.e. the building as a whole) may include communal areas like lobbies, gardens, a car park. It is also likely that people who own their apartment may pay a management charge for the maintenance of the building as a whole, and have a 99 year lease if they have outright ownership of the apartment. So the apartment would be leasehold but very long term, and may be mortgaged or purchased using equity from a previous property sale. The apartments could also be rented, either under a private landlord, a housing association or local authority; or under shared ownership - part rent part buy.
An apartment is a type of structure (e.g., 2 or more dwelling units in a single building). It may be owned in the entirety by one or more owners. A condo is a type of ownership of one or more dwelling units and appurtenant common space owned in common, and with individual units owned separately. Condos may be apartments or individual structures. In many places "apartment" occupancy refers only to THREE or more dwelling units in the same building, such as for life-safety code. Both may also be made available for rental by others, which is not "ownership", but rather a temporary exclusive right of possession of the unit.

Most apartments are things that you rent and that you live in a condominium is usually a building that you're buying and it has a homeowners association fee where they do the maintenance for you and take care of the building they do rent condominiums but the essential difference is one is to rent what is to buy. And apartments don't usually have a homeowners association fee but sometimes they do have a maintenance fee
An apartment building has one owner, or two or three people but all units are jointly owned. Each unit is rented out individually. A condo has a Homeowner's Association. Each unit is individually owned and each owner pays an HOA annual fee for maintenance of the common areas. Condos generally have many amenities, not just a pool and a gym. There would be a nice lobby, possibly with a fireplace, s common sitting room, billiards, perhaps, a piano in a large entertainment room.

They are basically the same attached units .
Condos and apartments can be owned or rentals.
With a condo you own your unit. You pay a monthly fee for maintenance of the common areas of the building.
Some owners of condos may rent out their unit.

You typically own a condo but rent an apartment.
