When you click on a bag (or can) of food they will tell you the exact ingredients and what they mean. You can also bring your vet the list of ingredients to see what he/she thinks.
Those are some of the TOP brands of dog food out there.
I would recommend California Natural or Innova EVO as my top 2 choices. I'm guessing that you know what ingredients that your dog needs (more protein?) so just read up on each of the foods.
I really dont know Vet lingo, but I'm guessing your dog needs more protein? If so, check out Innova EVO:
Highest protein levels around, all natural and very healthy.
Stay away from Iams, Pedigree, Kibbles and Bits, Beneful .. etc etc. .. full of corn, wheat, soy, by products and fillers that will most likely upset / and make your dog unhealthy.
Both have low protein and fat, great for dogs with any type of stones.
Original or chicken forms of either food are better if the vet is not concerned with the protein/fat content.
Wellness is also very good with the regular chicken food, but if your dog needs low protein/fat their Super5Mix Weight Management is too low in protein and fat.
Science Diet, Iams, and Purina are not good foods. They contain many additives, fillers, and by-products.
My dog is diabetic among other issues and what my vets have said is organic food. Both of my dogs do really well on a brand called Wellness sold at PetSupermarket. It is 100% natural and made of stuff like chicken, sweet potatoes, and veggies. They have a website for details at www.oldmotherhubbard.com
Hope that helps :-)
Stay away from Science Diet and Iams- they are not all natural and contain lots of things like cornmeal which are not a good basis for dogs- just expensive food with good advertising

For a dog with cystinuria, I recommend:
Eagle Pack- Reduced Fat Formula
