It could be said that what we see as outer space is the 3-dimensional 'edge' of the expanding 4D universe, possibly a 3-torus.
Whether that statement is accurate or not, I don't know, but it seems amusing.
The universe doesn't have an edge. It is either infinite or finite but unbounded.
