The equilibrium constant for the reaction: 2 SO2(g) + O2(g) ⇌ 2 SO3(g) is
Kc = 1.7 × 106. What is the equilibrium constant for the reaction:
SO3(g) ⇌ 1/2 O2(g) + SO2(g)
2 SO2(g) + O2(g) ⇌ 2 SO3(g) .............. Kc = 1.7 × 10^6.
SO3(g) ⇌ 1/2 O2(g) + SO2(g) ............... Kc = ???
Kc = 1 / (1.7x10^6)^½ ..... or simply ....... 1.7x10^6)^-½
Kc = 7.7x10^-4
If you divide the coefficients by 2, take the square root to get the new Kc. If you flip the products and the reactants, then the new Kc is the reciprocal of the original one.
