CALL the county / city /state you paid to and ask them. I couldn't find my tax bill, so I overpaid by 10 dollars, the county sent my entire payment back. Which caused me to be late with payment. I overpaid and got charged a late fee because they did not keep ANY of my money. They said that until next year's taxes are assed, I owe nothing, so they couldn't keep my money. If you prepaid next quarter (not next year) taxes, they might be able to credit your bill for next quarter, but only if you've gotten a bill that includes next quarter amount.

Then you have credit for next year or can request a refund.
The tax collector would owe you a refund.
you over paid, that's what it is. contact who you paid and have them give the amount back to you or have them apply it to next year.
You would be offered a refund or a credit towards the next year.
