I am reading the autopsy report for Terri Schiavo and do not have an extensive medical knowledge base. The report states that her brain "showed marked Anoxic–ischemic encephalopathy resulting in massive cerebral atrophy" I understand that cerebral atrophy means that large amounts of brain tissue was killed but i don't understand that phrase "Anoxic–ischemic encephalopathy" can someone explain this to me?
