One thing I can think of is that Mormons are allowed to attend college classes and earn college degrees, whereas the JWs forbid it.
[The only really weird legality they have is that the Mormons can’t drink ice tea, but they CAN drink coke or Pepsi. If caffeine is bad, why no consistency?]
But getting back on topic, what are some other freedoms that LDS people have, which JWs don’t?
And if you had to pick the faith with the fewest extra-Biblical rules/regulations, which one would it be?

I was brought up from birth as a Jehovah's Witness but left that organisation in the 1970's. I can confirm that although they are not forbidden from going to college, children of J.W. parents are "encouraged" to get out of state education as soon as it is legally permissible so they can devote all their time to the preaching work. My parents only ever wanted me to become a "pioneer" and marry another J.W. I left school with the minimum qualifications, and lived to regret that after I walked out and started a new life for myself.
I also had Mormon neighbours for several years and noticed their children were given much more freedom than J.W. children. They didn't forbid birthday celebrations, or Christmas. And they didn't force their children to remain seated when the national anthem was played (in the U.K.). Also, if any of their children had needed a blood transfusion, they would have got it.
However, it has come to my attention that Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are controlled in many similar ways. You might want to examine the comparisons in the link below. It has nothing to do with theological beliefs but compares Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons against Biblical Freedom. For what it's worth, I would never pick a faith based on how many extra-Biblical rules and regulations they had. I would run a mile in the opposite direction! After all, there is freedom in Christ Jesus. Any organisation that adds to the finished work of Christ must, by definition, be counterfeit.
You don't need to go to college, at least you have good education. JW's don't forbid it. Many have gone, and at the same time preached the good news. To do more, many have not needed to attend college. The Bible is the source of wisdom. School is just where you can get knowledge and know arithmetic and so forth. Wisdom is putting knowledge in use, and for school, what can you deeply do with that knowledge?. It won't help people know the true God, Jehovah.
This is where Christendom and other large religions have not done: applied the Bible in their lives. For them, good works are merely praying to idols and serving them food (not what the true God would approve of [Psalms 115] And serving food to nonexistent manmade things actually spends money). They also think good works are reading Bible, but in fact, they understand 2/5 of it. I am not prejudice, but am just saying....
Well, looking at the current bunch running for President, being knee deep in the slime of politics, amassing a lot of wealth and power, and thinking that YOU have the solution to all of mankind's problems, and needs, then that would be some of the "freedom" that Mormons have.
I would pick Jehovah's Witnesses with the fewest extra-Biblical rules.
A note. Your thought that it is a matter of "freedom" that is involved. It is more a matter of choice. We CHOOSE not to do things, because of our consciences and because of the commandments of God and Christ.
Jesus, speaking of his followers, prayed for them on his last night on earth, because he said "they are no part of the world, just as I am". Later the next day he told Pilate that IF his kingdom was from the same source as Pilate's, his followers would have fought to defend him. He said "but mine is not from that source".
We live our faith, and choose to do things based off of it, not a table of rules of do or don't do.
Does it really matter, both are sawing off the limb from the wrong end and are in for a 'fall'. Paul writes beware of the false teachings of a false prophet, it's the falling away.
I'm going to put interesting on this one I have no idea about any of their belief's. Can't attend College or drink tea? ugh...God made us to be the best we can be. If he didn't want us to grow and learn he wouldn't have given us a brain
Hello
Thanks for the opportunity to correct you! Jehovah's Witnesses CAN and DO attend college, university etc and many of us (including myself) have obtained degrees, diplomas etc.
Higher education is not forbidden, we are free to do whatever we wish, however we simply see the value of pursuing spiritual goals and pleasing Almighty God, rather then pursuing goals in this world which will soon pass away.
The phrase "polishing the silverware on the Titanic" springs to mind.
Thanks!
Mormons believe they are free to work their way up to god-hood.
No self-respecting JW would even consider the idea of becoming 'a god' legitimate. Mind you, their 144,000 believe they will be on a par with Jesus Christ as kings and priests with Him in heaven, and they describe Jesus as being 'a god'. Then again, the god, Jesus, is never to receive worship, they say, whereas the Mormons believe worship will eventually be given to good Mormons who work their way up to the highest level of the kingdom and become gods.
Nothing to choose between either group when it comes to extra-biblical stuff, however.
I wouldnt be either, to be honest, both are religious systems that have nothing to do with Jesus and neither are biblical. If you give your heart and life to Jesus He will guide you to the right church, but if you just want to join a social club then I wouldnt join any religious sect, most are legalistic. If you are seriously interested I can post some of the extra biblical things that both the JW's and the Mormons teach that have nothing to do with God, or the bible.
Birthday parties and Christmas.
The Mormon writing about coffee and tea says hot beverages but they ban iced coffee and tea. It is just about submitting to the church.
The Mormons and JW's are being deceived. I have shared my faith about Jesus Christ with both groups and their doctrines do match up with biblical christianity.
I am praying for both of these groups. We are living in very uncertain times and now is the time more than ever to get right with our Lord and Savior.
