The meaning is great, but this is definitely one name that really, really should be used with caution lol. Adore? On a boy? This, unfortunately, will get him a lot of trouble on the playground lol. It's the kid that makes the name and not the other way around, but I think this is just giving him too big of a challenge lol. No need to make things harder for him than necessary.

If you love it enough, maybe, at most, it could be a nice middle name. Otherwise, I wouldn't use it.

Adora though, on a girl, would be really cute.

PS Also, it might not seem like a bad choice to you now, but think about it hard lol. There's a kid in my school named Dorcas... I suppose his mom thought it was a nice masculine name too, but I heard his name called over the loudspeaker one day and everybody cracked up lol. Who in their right mind would name their kid "dorkus"? haha.

I believe it to be too effeminate, for many reasons. First off, it is too similar to the feminine version Adorée - that being only one silent E. Also, it sounds very French, which alone will be, for many, a feminine connotation. It also has a style to it that one sees only in feminine names - it's almost a pet name. It means "adored" which gives an impression of "pampered" or "soft" - attributes assumed to be emasculate in our culture.

A good example is René and Desiré. These forms are 100% the male version. However, they are identical to the popular Renée and Desirée when said out loud and look SO similar. I've also the male version (too much) on the names on females - an honestly easy mistake for those who do not know any French. I would never name a son this.

I believe you see "masculine names" and "male names" as the same thing. While I will sometimes refer to boy names as "masculine names," I don't always think of them as exclusively the same thing. A name can show off a male baby being a boy, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't make/could make the boy seem like a, how do you say... wimp. I think this is something you should keep in mind.

On another note, I personally consider this name a bit too much anyway. I wouldn't even use the name (Adorée) on a girl. It's a bit too "pink" as I like to put it :) (i.e. frou frou)

The meaning is nice. But really. I don't think it would fly. It's just very literal - in both french and English. I probably wouldn't name my child Love or Cherish either. I kinda don't see the difference between them and Adore.

On second though... I don't see how it means "Loved Child". The translation in French is the past form of Love - no reference to child. Wouldn't it just be loved? Eh. I'm not really certain how name meanings are derived anyway. It's certainly not the literal translation in this case.

The weird thing is that I don't really mind Adora for a girl. I probably wouldn't pick it, but I wouldn't hate on it.

It doesn't even sound masculine. If I were a boy, and that were my name, I would change it.

Just because someone a long time ago categorized that name as a male name doesn't mean it's suitable for a boy today. Males today are much more subject to teasing then they were all those centuries ago.

EDIT: i think it's feminine because... "Adore" is a delicate word, and just more suitable for a girl. i feel like it's almost like naming a boy "Love". would you name a boy Love? plus, if you know French, then you'll know about the whole feminine/masculine thing. and it just sounds similar to the female version, Adoree. it just doesnt sound as strong as a boy's name should be. that's just my opinion. it's okay if you disagree.

The meaning is lovely, but I'm not as fond of the name. I do sorta like these names, which all have a similar meaning.

I really like the meaning, but the name Adore is just odd. And I can see where the ayyy ending seems feminine...

Its different but not bad. You could always use it as a middle name if you like the meaning but don't like it as a first name.
