"Radical atheists" / "militant atheists" are atheists who are very much opposed to religion and seek to have religion eliminated from society as they believe it is a harm/danger to society. They are 100% opposed to religion. They will speak out against atheism at any given opportunity.
I'm an atheist. I don't consider myself to be a radical atheist. I don't mind peaceful religious people that respect separation of church and state, I don't mind that they have their churches to go to, so long as they keep their religion confined to the privacy of their own home, and their church.
I would rather call myself a militant defender of separation of church and state. I believe that total separation of church and state eventually leads to the public population becoming less and less religious over time as there is less exposure to it.
This would be referred to as 'strong' atheism. These are the people who try to put their opinion out there more. They are more aggressive in their non belief. These are the atheists who believe not only that there is no god but that believe in god is illogical and silly. I'd classify myself as a more radical atheist but I'm just more inclined to that side of atheism due to my very harsh resentment that I was raised Christian. I felt lied to and brain washed...but those are my issues...hope I helped!
just think of the exact opposite of a radical believer of any sorts: probably one who holds rallies against religious people, encourages the outlawing of religion, etc.

I, like Douglas Adams, refer to myself as a "radical atheist" so that no one will ever mistake me for an agnostic.
