It strikes me as obviously unimportant, considering the fact that so many, many, many Christians™ blithely ignore it.
Update:Oh, and I never give thumbs down to anyone, so if you get one, it ain't from me.

The problem is that non-Christians always consider it 'judgement' when a Christian points out a fault. The bible tells us that we should tell others when they are wrong, so that they can learn from it and, hopefully, put matters right. Telling people that they have done something wrong is not what the bible means by judgement. God is the ONLY judge and He will also do any punishing, if necessary.
We would be doing others an injustice if we simply ignored all wrong doing.
Touché. Be careful not to judge others, because you will be judges for every tiny action yourself, and no one likes a hypocrite.
Matthew 7:5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye
Calm down Pippi. I understand that your Q was not meant litrally, but how on earth was I supposed to answer that? I actually asked a q similar to this. Huh.
Sadly, many do ignore it. I have been on the receiving end of it and work hard to avoid such behavior.
To judge is to sit in the seat of a judge. It is to announce conviction and pronounce sentence. It is something I have found I am not qualified to do in the Kingdom of God, the One True Judge.
To point out the obvious, such as telling someone they are in the wrong when they are, is not judging. This is stating a fact. Bernie Madoff was found guilty and even admitted to stealing peoples money. Would it be judgmental to call him a thief? No. Would it be judgmental to call him an adulterer or murderer since his is a thief, after all? Yes! If someone called him a thief because he is a Jew, that would be racist and judgmental. But, the evidence was there and he has been found to be a thief. It would also be judgmental to say, "He'll never change", or "He is bound for hell". These are things that are not up to us to say, since it is God who changes hearts and up to individuals to change their minds.
Being judgmental is a human condition. It is not exclusive to Christians. But, many of us are or have been judgmental. Jesus showed us how not to be judgmental, how to be truly loving and how not to hold a record of wrongs. He warned us in direct wording, as noted in your question, as well as in example (the woman at the well and the woman caught in adultery) and through parables (the man forgiven of his debt who goes after debtors - unforgiveness is judgmentality).
Christians, let's get our act together. Get to know the example of Jesus and live it.
Indeed, it is one of the most important points Jesus ever made, which makes it so much more upsetting that so many Christians ignore it. This verse is one of the foundations of Christ's teachings, and is one of the main ways he departed from the religious traditions of the time. The Gospels are filled with Jesus encouraging everyone to get themselves right with God and to worry less about what other people are doing--you see it in everything from his friendships with prostitutes to his judgmental words toward the Pharasies.
Christians who concentrate more on the Epistles (letters to early churches) than the Gospels (biographies of Christ) will be more likely to be judgmental. The Gospels tell you who Christ is and what he taught, while the Epistles are more of a guide to help Christians live their lives better. Many people miss this point, read the Epistles with advice about what Christians shouldn't be doing, and then judge others (even non-christians) based on those books.
They should be going to the Gospels when dealing with non-christians. They should accept non-believers without judgment, and allow them to see the sins in their lives for themselves. Each person should have enough to do to ensure that they are living right themselves that taking time to worry about the sins of others shouldn't be something they get around to often.
I think in today's society that to many people try to judge others when they themselves carry a lot of baggage. I think when the Bible says "Judge not, lest ye be judged", it is telling people to look at themselves before they start judging others!
Matthew 7:1 tends to be quoted out of context to mean we should never judge anyone. The Bible doesn’t tell us we shouldn’t judge anyone (or anything). Indeed, 1 Corinthians 2:15 says the exact opposite: “But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.” These verses don’t contradict each other – the complement each other. Matthew 7 is talking about hypocrites who are guilty of worse things than what they condemn others for. 1 Corinthians points out that a spiritual judge is one who correctly judges yet is himself innocent.
I take it to mean that we do not have the authority to judge, and if we do then we will be judged by a more strict measure than the one we used. With this, keep in mind "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone"[John 8:7], also "And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"[Matthew 7:3]
and many, many many many atheists ignore the testimony of millions of witnesses.
but then again, its just as judgmental for people to make accusations against christians without knowing all the facts.
the bible also says "judge righteously". and when jesus says take out the beam in your own eye, does he not also says "then you can clearly see to take out the speck in the other persons eye".
it also says many are called to be judges and Must Judge.
and it also says do not be salt that is good for nothing but to be cast out under the feet of men.
it also says Ye are the light of the world. let your light so shine. these are pro-active commandments. not just simple suggestions.
it also says: Rebuke "publicly"
it also says: it is the heritage of the LORD to defend publicly with rebuttle. Source(s) 1 Pet 5:3
Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
You know how on Judge Joe Brown, no matter what a defendant is being accused of, he/she always has a counter-suit?
Like, Sally Joe is suing Billy Bob for stealing her ceramic pig collection in the break up, so he counter-sues for her denting his '48 Panhead Hog with her badonkadonk?
I think it's kinda like that....sort of.
So many, many Drivers blithely ignore the speed limit. Does that mean you should too?
