Wow, still caught up in this bi-partisan illusion? If you really look at it, both parties are essentially the same. They both want to increase spending, wars, violations of your constitutional rights, etc... Really the only difference is that one party refuses to cut a penny of welfare spending and the other party refuses to cut a penny of military spending. Think outside the two party system. A party should not define who you are in any way. Why do you think our founding fathers did not want us to have political parties and even feared the creation of political parties?

They can refuse to make that candidate their candidate for the next election, but he or she still has the right to run for reelection.

Well, that depends.
Is the law where you live that "All Elected Officials must vote with their Party"?
If not, then legally, nothing.
Now, can they be pricks, and try and hurt him, politically?
