Not sure what you mean by give rise to. The library city of Timbuktu. Much of the gold that decorated the altars of late medieval europe, by plunder during the crusades or through commerce, came from the mines of the Malinese empire. The contemporary country of Mali has a good portion of the Malinese empires former territory. The examples of sudanic earthen architecture in Djenne, Gao and Timbuktu are fascinating and are influencing some builders of new earthen homes....umm.
