Just reading some of the comments about child benefit, that it is claimed by scroungers. Yet in fact anyone who earns under £60k a year and has kids can claim it. Are the vast majority of these people REALLY scroungers?

If you're on 60k then you're still a net contributor so no, you wouldn't be a scrounger. If you deliberately have kids in the knowledge that they will be a burden on tax payers then yes, you ARE a scrounger. If you're forced to give up work and and go on sick you're not a scrounger. If you've been on the dole for twenty years, have no intention of getting a job, then find out you can get an extra hundred quid a week for being so unhealthy, then yes you ARE a scrounger.
Basically, it's daft to say EVERYONE is a scrounger or EVERYONE isn't. The truth is always somewhere in the MIDDLE.
of course not but it suits governments and their supporters in the press to demonise people till no one feels normal that receives any kind of state benefit I am retired worked bloody hard all my life in construction however I was put out of work in the 1980s under the working mans government and had to apply for help I was one of the scroungers then I was the scum of the earth happily I got through it and was back in work so a couple of years out of 50 is not a lot but my country hurt me bad with those words we are not scroungers give us a fair chance then see how many scroungers there are
A "Scrounger", is not so defined based on what they 'earn'....but on what they 'take'.
We now have 'career' benefit cheats. These are the 'scroungers' that should be addressed.
i would say that people who do not work for a living but live off the various state handouts are scroungers, people who work and earn money whether its £6000 or £60000 cannot be called scroungers.
The scroungers are the ones living on benefits or foreigners who have contributed nothing to the welfare state.Someone earning 60k a year will be paying tax.If you can breed children you can work.that means you mohammed.
It's the super rich who are the real scroungers,
http://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Documents/PCSTaxGap2...
"The report by Tax Research UK estimated the tax gap at £120 billion", thats avoidance and evasion.
http://www.ifs.org.uk/publications/7424
"take off £83 billion of spending on state pensions and you get to £168 billion on.."
So, if we collected the full take, we'd get rid of the debt and no cuts.
Don't forget Corny that the Tories only want "Hard Working People" the other 35 Million can go to Hell apparently lol
No, as only a very small amount of people make more than £60000 a year
The higher earners pay more into the system, and withdraw least.
Child benefit can give their kids pocket money.
No.
