Tu as bu café aujourd'hui, is that a correct french sentence?
It's supposed to mean "did you drink coffee today" or "have you been drinking coffee today"?
Also, is this phrase correct or not?
Should I write "John versé le lait dans le verre" or "John a versé le lait dans le verre"? We are practising passé composé for school, and the sentence is supposed to be: "John poured milk into the glass".
Thanks in advance!

"did you drink coffee today" is "Tu as bu café aujourd'hui"
"have you been drinking coffee today" is "Est-ce que tu as bu du café aujourd'hui"
"John a versé le lait dans le verre" This one is definitely the right one, but I don't like it. It's sounds like your pourring all the milk that's left into your glass.
If you want to write "John poured milk into the glass". I think the correct sentence would be "John a versé du lait dans le verre"
Actually, in spoken French you're just as likely to say 'tu as bu café aujourd'hui?' as you are to say 'as-tu bu café aujourd'hui?'. I would say you might want to rephrase it to be perfectly correct but it's just as acceptable in spoken French.
Your sentence should be 'John a versé le lait dans le verre', just remember for passé composé you should have 'avoir' in there somewhere (in this case, it is 'a'). Although as said above, depending on the context, you might want to go for 'du lait'.
Your first sentence is not correct because it isn't in the interrogative form. You should say "As-tu bu du café aujourd'hui?"
In the affirmative form, your sentence would be nearly correct except that you must add "du" in front of "café".
Your second sentence should be "John a versé le lait (or 'du lait') dans le verre".
Passé composé:
Formation:
Auxiliary Avoir or Être conjugated in present tense + past participle of the main verb (ex. drink = boire - BU)

French interrogation
1. Whith inversion
TU manges - affirmative
Manges-TU?
2. Whithout inversion
“Est-ce que ...”
Est-ce que TU manges?
3. Whith intonation
(but your theacher it is not interesed in that one I tink)
"Tu as bu" is in the format of the past tense
To say it in the present tense:
(When asking a question in French, invert the verb.)
Formal:Buvez-vous un cafe aujourd'hui?
Informal:Buvez-tu un cafe aujourd'hui?
To say it in the past:
Formal: Avez-vous bu un cafe hier (yesterday)?
Informal: As-tu bu un cafe hier?
