I'm having some difficulties with pronunciation, 2 questions:
1. I've heard that tsch is said like an english j and then I heard its ch and then I heard its sh. Which is it? Natives german speakers only PLEASE.
2. Is ß pronounced like z or s?
Thanks
Update:no, its not mia....please don't make your own sloppy phonetic translations, it doesn't work with english. Please simply answer questions 1 and 2.

It is pronounced like ch as in chapel. The ß is an s sound. You can avoid that word altogether, though. There are quite a few possibilities to say goodbye in German and i always found 'tschuess' a little silly sounding (especially when people add an i at the end - tschuessi).
Anyway, you can listen to the pronunciation here:

http://www.forvo.com/word/tsch%C3%BCss/
Both pronunciations sound fine to me.
its pronounced ch-oo-se (but not choose as in to pick something, CHOO and then SE.
