Translating "qué + pluperfect" into English?
Hi!
I'm looking for advice on translating the following sentences into English:
Salío de España con su padre, que ya había empezado a trabajar en la costa este.
Tres años despues vino su madre, que se había quedado en España.
How would the "que" translate?
Here's my attempt:
He left Spain with his father, who had already begun to work on the east coast.
His mother came three years later, having stayed in Spain until then.
To my ear, "que se había quedado en España" and "having stayed in Spain until then" don't appear to be a very good match. Any other ideas? I'd prefer to use the pluperfect/past perfect in English too (she had stayed) but I can't figure out how to do so.

He/She left Spain with his/her father, WHO had already started working in the eastern coast.
Three years later his/her mother arrived, WHO had remained in Spain.
Tu Espanol es muy bueno. No te preocupes mucho por el resultado del pluscuamperfect.
La palabra que hace al pluscuamperfect lo que es, es el QUE, el cual se traduce al Ingles como THAT. Aqui esta la frase en Ingles.

Tres años despues vino su madre, que se habÃa quedado en España." "HE CAME OUT OF SPAIN WITH HIS FATHER, THAT HAD ALREADY STARTED TO WORK IN THE EAST COAST. THREE YEARS LATER HIS MOTHER CAME, THAT HAD STAYED BACK IN SPAIN".
The most important thing is "To understand". If you can attain that after learning the Language...you're Ok.
Three years later his mother arrived, having remained in Spain during that time.
