Looks like Dr. Gerard is right: 1/6 is the answer. Kyle was close, but evidently he made an error when subtracting 1 from both sides (0 - 1 = -1, not 1). Without that, his answer would have also been 1/6 instead of -1/6.

Update: I subsituted x for 1/16 and did confirm this to be accurate, as the final equation (3/3 = 1) is an equality.
