It would have helped if you had put in some brackets. I am assuming what you mean is:
(5/8)x - x = 3/10
(5/8)x - x = (-3/8)x
-3/8x = 3/10
x = (3/10)/(-3/8)
This can be re written:
x = 3/10 x 8/-3
x = 24/-30
x = -4/5
-4/5... [factor out the x] x(5/8-1)= 3/10
[divide 3/10 by (-3/8)] = -24/30
[simplify] = -4/5
