Well, technically you can do anything you want because you're human and have free will. Killing and stealing is wrong in everybody's eyes and will be punished either way. When you become an atheist I think they mean you become "free" in the sense that you can fornicate, participate in homosexuality, party all you want vs. going to church, following God's will in your life, etc. They believe that there are ultimately no consequences for what you do (except for those of this earth, nothing greater). Kinda like, the whole "you only live once so don't waste your life away" idea. I personally don't believe this, and feel that you can live a perfectly meaningful and fun filled life in Christ. But everybody's entitled to their own opinion.

I am an Atheist, and I am a good person. I am very kind, loyal and help people less fortunate than me through volunteer work. I am a better person today than I was at 6 years old and was questioning the existence of a god.

I don't know about you, but I behave morally because I have empathy for others and I'm not a psychopath.
