No. If they wanted to help then the better way would be to cap premiums and medical costs, not to force a public to purchase a product already unaffordable. To stand behind the lie that they wanted to provide health care to the poor is offensive to intelligence because we've had that already in this Country since 1960's under Medicaid. No hospital has the legal right to turn anyone away from treatment, so the notion that people are sick and dying because they aren't receiving care is also a lie...the majority in that predicament choose freely not to receive care in those facilities that aren't lawfully permitted to turn them away!
If the government was earnestly concerned with the rising care of health costs and premiums they also could have easily extended the limits of those accepted into Medicaid, a system without bugs and already set in place and functioning Nationally without issue and funding in place...this would have addressed all the concerns without the unConstitutional mandate of forced purchase of a product for which is unaffordable for the majority under another government program that is causing the majority of premiums to increase across the board - who exactly is this affordable for?! And subsidies? Where do people think THAT money is going to come from...the government has none of their own, they only get it from us!
Here's some inconvenient truth -- we are self employed individuals who have been responsible for funding our own health care for years. Because the premiums are not capped they are far more outrageous than most people understand since the majority receive their benefits from another source (employers or Medicare/Medicaid) and we were literally paying almost $15,000.00 per year for 2 adults! When it became clear that doing so for something you hope not to use and rarely did, we took a look at our coverage and reduced the benefits substantially but this only reduced our premium to $12,000.00 per year for 2 adults (non-drinking, non-smoking!) Consider that this translates to an 80/20 w/ co-pays, and with medical costs that fall under the co-pay and 20% then your cost for medical insurance and coverage/care raises back up into the $15,000.00 or more range....WHO can afford that? But if you go onto the government forced programs you'll see that these general premiums raise across the board conservatively by 30%, on average by 40-50% and in some states up to 75% for apples-to-apples comparison - my personal $15,000.00 or more now rises to $20-25,000.00!! "Affordable" for who?! Every single one of the government sponsored news stories only focus on their bronze level, which is basically a catastrophic coverage only and fails to provide basic coverage for anyone who accepts that level so the concept of providing care for all is a lie, as is the concept of making it affordable. And the end result is that we are no longer a free Country when the government is authorized to force you to purchase a product. While some liken it to States which require auto insurance, that fails because no State also requires you to own a car and those who cannot afford auto insurance can opt out by not owning an auto.
Yes. The governments responsibility is to its citizens, and part of that responsibility is to put in place a system whereby all citizens, rich or poor, weak or strong pull together and have the ability to access health care.
The problem in the USA is that corporations run the country, not the government which is supposed to be, for the people by the people.
No. The role of government is to protect the natural rights of the people, not to provide or force laws against those rights or dictate policy from birth to death.
