Should I store my Pokémon at a Pokémon Ranch or Oak's Laboratory?

So I've been doing a Pokémon roleplay, kind of like writing a story of my own Pokémon adventure. Basically I'm going through my journey except it's more like the anime world than the game one. So as I go through different regions, catch Pokémon & aim to complete my goal of becoming a Pokémon master, I've had this nagging question: Where should I store my Pokémon?

Now, I don't have a lot of Pokémon in this roleplay; I only catch about 6 Pokémon per region, going through every region known (Kanto, Johto, etc). I'm a trainer that was born in the Johto region (Goldenrod City, to be exact), and I'm torn between these two options:

My Pokémon stay at a local ranch run by a friend, where he only stores my Pokémon & his

OR

Professor Oak's Laboratory, where he stores the Pokémon for multiple trainers.

No matter what the place is going to be a ranch, so it's going to have a pasture & different locations for different Pokémon, but I just don't know if it should be Oak' lab or my friend's ranch. That's really what my question is.

I'd just like to get your guys' opinions on this, it is a roleplay and I'm going to do it my way, but this is one thing I've been torn with. So just give me your opinions, thanks!

P.S. Does anyone know a good website or forum I can join where they do battling just like in the anime & I can join tournaments & just battle?

Update:

Also, at both places they will be out of their Poke Balls. At my friend's ranch, they would be out 24/7 and sleep in a barn, or out in the pasture, or wherever, but they would be out of their Poke Balls 24/7.

Now I know that at Oak's Lab they are out only some of the time. He does have the giant corral where there are hundreds of Pokémon out but he has so many more that not all get out every day.
