We have got the wife’s mother coming to dinner tomorrow and Jackie (my wife) thinks it would be a good idea to impress her with me doing the cooking (how wrong can you get), I am going to cook beacon & eggs and new potato’s (I can do that) but I need the recipe for Apple Crumble to finish it off (the meal not the mother).

Apple Crisp:
4 Cups sliced cooking apples (4 to 6 medium sized)*
1 Tablespoon (Tbs) lemon juice
1/3 Cup (C) sifted flour
1 C oatmeal (quick or old-fashioned)
1/2 C brown sugar (compact into a dry measuring cup)
1/2 teaspoon (tsp) salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 C melted butter or oleo
Place apples in greased shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice.
Combine dry ingredients separately; add melted butter, mixing until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of apples evenly.
Bake in a moderate oven (375 F) 30 min. or until apples are tender. Serve warm or cold. Top with whipped cream or milk. Serves 6
*If apples are very tart, sweeten slightly. But still use lemon!
It's easy to do and here's my recipe.
6-8 cooking apples
Peel apples and cut into roughly 8ths. Put into a casserole dish and toss with 3/4 cup sugar, brown or white.
Mix 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour in a bowl. Cut in about 1/2 cup butter until crumbly. Cover apple mixture with this. Bake at 365 for about 45 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
You can buy pie crust, some green apples, line pie dish with pie crust, cut apples to small pieces do not forget to cored the apples, coated cut apples with some sugar and a table spoon or two of corn flour, mix flour with butter, add a little sugar and a pinch of salt and put on top of the apples, bake in medium heat oven about 45-50 minutes. Serve hot or cold and you can served with ice cream too (if your mil love ice cream) Good luck
