Push pull converter can be regarded as two single switch forward converter running out of phase. The biggest advantage you get it does not need a isolated power supply to drive the FETs.
The transformer runs at both the quadrants and gets resetted at every cycle. However push pull converters are not very widely used because of the flux walking phenomena. When one mosfet turns on for a longer time the flux swing on the transformer is more because of its volts seconds. Every cycle the flux moves towards saturation.

What does "plant a push pull transformer" mean?
I'm not sure what You mean by push-pull, but to me it's just a DC to DC converter.
