Hello, I was wondering if there are such things as insurance or payment plans for dogs. My dog has lived a happy life, but nature called for a sudden problem. She will need a very risky surgery. It is very pricey, and I know some will say “why have a dog if I cant afford it”. I can afford her, shes lived a healthy, long life. I just dont have a thousnads of dollars lying aroumd out of the blue. Please let me know if there are any payment plans or insurances. Thanks

try to find a vet who is lower priced. Try livestock vets, they don't make their living off of dogs and cats and sometimes their prices are much lower.
Care Credit is always a good option, its a type of credit card.
You will need to talk to your vet about a payment plan. Or you can apply for a loan from your bank or put it on a credit card.
Insurance wont cover preexisting conditions.
For payments.. Credit card, personal loan or carecredit.org
Even if there are insurance plans they will not cover conditions and events before the insurance went into place. So that is not going to help you. As far as payment plans, that is what a credit card is for. You pay the vet then over time you pay off the card. If you feel it is too much money, it is cheaper to have the vet put the dog to sleep.
WHERE? All Vets in all locations do not have the same policy. My dogs have health insurance, have since I got them. These plans do NOT cover pre-existing injuries.
Some years ago my dog got very, very sick and needed surgery. I simply didn't have the funds. I had a good relationship with my Vet, and I made an appointment to see him and explained my financial situation. I promised to pay back every cent, and he agreed. We signed a no interest contact, and I did pay him back as we agreed. I actually worked a part-time job in addition to my full-time job to be sure he was paid in full.
There are also credit plans in some areas.
You can't buy insurance once the problem has occurred. Well, you could but they still wouldn't cover the problem. Look into a Care Credit credit card. It can be used for all sorts of medical procedures, including veterinary. Check with your vet to see if they accept it.

They finance Vet charges.
Yes there is pet insurance however they require you to pay insurance from an early age/when you get your dog and will not accept you insuring a pet once you have been to the vet and all and any conditions have already been diagnosed, they exclude them....so you are not going to get insurance for already known conditions.
As far as payment plans you need to speak to your vet and see if they will accept that...most do not
Only your Vet can tell you.
