Hi,
So about two years ago, I told my parents that I might want to major in bio at college, but recently I’ve done some soul-searching and realized that I really want to major in art (specifically animation). I’ve been doing art since I could hold up a pencil and it’s been consistently influential to me growing up. I love animated movies and tv shows and it’s something I could see myself doing in the future and being happy about it. However, I was a little hesitant (hence telling my parents I wanted to initially major in bio) because I hsve two relatives that have majored in art and haven’t been very successful. About two weeks ago, I told my dad that I really wanted to major in animation and that I know its a hard feild to get into, but so isnt ever other science or math career? This morning, the first thing my dad told me was “If you major in art, we’re not paying for it.” I was completely heartbroken and devastated because my parents have supported me in everything I’ve ever done, but this is something that I know i’de be happy doing and that I really really want to do. Is there any way that I could possibly convince my parents to let me go to art school or at least make enough money to help put myself through college without any financial support from my parents?
-sincerely,
A very heartbroken art hoe

i would just do it anyways and if your parents dont like it thats their problenn
It is going to be tough to major in bio, because you will be competing with others who want to be doctors. Maybe communications or political science might be a better bet for you. Then once you have a masters degree, THEN you can earn enough to put yourself through art school. Meanwhile, make a few animated features by yourself as a hobby and start to build a reputation. These days all you need is smart phone and a home made animation stand. There is also quite a bit of free software out there, GIMP would be a good start.
That's a very hard field to get into much less master. They won't support you since its very, very likely you will not get far at all.
They are the ones paying for it so why should they waste money on something you very likely won't even master or get far in? If you want to take art then YOU need to suck it up and pay for it
